Dear Nathan, I thank you for your kind, although belated response to my inquiry. I have no doubt that my diligent posting has created an upsurge in page hits. You did put a smile on my face though by saying that people actually bought more licenses. Besides the questionable legality, why would people buy the cow if they can get the milk for free? All I could see that was proprietary was a nice bootup logo and a program that checks licenses, everything else is simply not your own work. If I wish to have what your program does, all I need to do is put rdesktop on a Linux boot floppy. I applaud companies that use Open Source programs like Linux and rdesktop and have no problem with these products being sold. However you will need to add something to the mix yourself. Red Hat sells Linux and adds service and support to the mix. Linksys sells hardware and uses Linux on its products. However they abide by the law, and give the sources away as the GPL license requires. EasyRDP as a product can not be licensed as you have done so far. You certainly maintain full copyrights over your own programs, but any GPL licensed programs and derivatives must be opened to the public. I am sure you were aware of this from the beginning though, no real company just starts selling other people's code without first checking the legalities. I can understand your lawyer(s) advised you strongly to stop selling EasyRDP to prevent you from opening yourself up from any further liabilities, however this does not nullify the infractions you have committed so far. As I myself am not a copyright owner of any of the included programs, I myself am not in a position to sue so I will leave this to the respective copyright owners. However, as a recipient of the EasyRDP demo which contains the binaries of the products, I again ask you for the sources of these programs as is my right via the GPL license of these programs. Also I want to thank you for your commercial at the end of your letter. Although I don't like getting spammed for products I don't want, your comment that RDPlockdown fits on a single floppy, makes me wonder if you use Linux for that one too... Kind regards, Ivo Palli
